OpenNet: Sallie Mae’s open lender list options

OpenNet is Sallie Mae’s comprehensive loan delivery platform. OpenNet’s capability to allow schools to create online lender lists supports schools’ efforts to offer choice to students who are selecting a lender.

With this feature, students and parents who do not want to use one of the school's preferred lenders can select "Other Lender" from the list of lenders. This option is available for students and parents through the entry point of www.opennet.salliemae.com.

The result is a process that is straightforward and easy.

Schools may choose one of two "Other Lender" options.

  1. An applicant who selects "Other Lender" can start an application and then complete most of the Master Promissory Note (MPN) online. The applicant is instructed to print the MPN, write the lender name in the lender section, and return the signed MPN to the Financial Aid Office.
  2. After selecting "Other Lender," the applicant is directed to the school’s website where further instructions are provided. To ensure the "Other Lender" option will display, schools must direct students and parents to www.opennet.salliemae.com. To activate/enable the "Other Lender" option to display on a school’s lender list, schools should contact their Sallie Mae Account Executive.
